How AI Has Changed the Career Field

Artificial intelligence (AI for short) has begun to revolutionize the world with new inventions and continuous work to improve it to be better. It’s also opened up new job opportunities for developers who’ve become skilled in understanding AI and are able to work with it to develop new ideas and creations. In this article, I’ll discuss how AI has made new and high demanding careers.

How was AI Created?

First, let’s explore how AI became the ground breaking idea for new technology and software. AI was introduced way back in the 1950s by Alex Turing. When Alex learned and created artificial intelligence (AI), it wasn’t even called artificial intelligence. Instead Alex called it cybernetics or automata theory.

In 1956 however, John McArthy who was a professor at Dartmouth created a summer program that explored Alex’s ideas about “cybernetics” and machines, and named the workshop “artificial intelligence”. From here, it is considered that Dartmouth founded artificial intelligence as a research field.

Now in the 20th century, Sam Altman changed the world for industries and people themselves with ChatGPT. Since ChatGPTs release it gave way to new ideas such as the study of Machine Learning and the idea that AI is able to “learn” different lessons about the complexities of life and how humans interact. Industries like Education, Healthcare, and Software Engineering have been influenced by AI and are finding ways to implement it into their day to day work.

What Careers Has AI Introduced?

AI as a career are people who’ve familiarized themselves with AI and became skilled in different areas of development pertaining to AI. I’ll explain a few examples of jobs that are centered around AI.

First, AI Ethics Officers. The role of an AI Ethics Officer is to work alongside companies to ensure transparency, fairness and comply with global regulations. Companies find this important considering fields where AI might be used such as banking. Having an ethics officer that secures sensitive information like credit card numbers, credit scores, or other personal data collected at your bank.

Secondly, prompt engineers. Prompt engineers are exactly what it sounds like. A prompt engineer will work to create prompts highly specific to a certain subject or matter. Not just tech companies are hiring prompt engineers, so are companies like law fields or education fields. Companies in this field want to implement AI into their workflow and employee’s workflow as well. Hiring a prompt engineer means that they can engineer highly specific prompts pertaining to your company and what work they do.

Finally, there are AI Maintenance Specialist. This type of career pertaining to AI is to oversee machines that use AI in settings like factories or logistic hubs. Even though these companies are investing in this technology, it still needs human oversight. A maintenance specialist understands these machines and makes sure they are performing well so that factories and logistic hubs are satisfied and feel efficient.

Conclusion

In conclusion, since AI was introduced it has created many new careers for people looking to specialize in this new and leading invention. All careers can benefit companies who want to implement AI in some way into their daily workflow and even employee’s daily workflow. Factories and logistic hubs can get work done quicker with new high-tech machines containing AI. All while an AI Maintenance Specialist is making sure they’re running the best they can.

These new careers are not just important for the applicant, but also companies as well. I think from here on that more careers will pop-up and become popular among those wanting to explore and understand more about AI.
